Thank you for all your wonderful replies. You made me laugh and you made me cry and it was all good.

It seems I do things in spades. I just kept thinking, "I'll get better. I'll get better."

You know when these things happen it makes me appreciate the good days I have. I used to be sick every single day. Now I have good days and it's awesome!

I did some reading and it seems "mono" is also the Epstein Barr Virus or a variant of it. Once you've had mono and your system gets really run down, you can get it again! I caught mono years ago when I drank out of the students' water fountain instead of the teachers' water fountain. Yep, no adventure here!

I was allergic to the pain medicine. It was an IV push and it started with a "z" but I can't remember the name. Boy, did that get interesting for a while.
