Both Tryptophan and Magnesium are interesting. I think I noticed a definite calming effect from a Calcium/Magnesium drink I tried a while back. I think I'm going to try that some more.
There was a very serious EMS poisoning event from Tryptophan supplements in ~1989 causing many deaths and disabilities. This was eventually traced to contamination from one Japanese company. Wikipedia says that this was long since corrected, but it may be why MDs are still shy to suggest it (Tryptophan is a serotonin precursor). - v
