The changes may have to do with insurance reimbursement and not the fact that you are on a controlled substance. If your doctor fills out the paperwork correctly, stating that you have been stable on this dose for X amount of time and are doing well, the insurance company may still cover it. If not, you might have the option for paying for the part the insurance does not cover if you can afford it.

Adderall comes in a non-sustained release form which is much cheaper that the XR type. You would have to take a 30mg tables three times a day. That could be an option.
