The kids are worried about getting stuck with the cost of buying a coffin, which I guess averages $2000, and the cost of paying the undertaker in two places, here and where they live.

They'll do what they want. I won't worry too much about it. I'm on social security, but could pitch in a few thousand. If each of them did the same, it would be $8000, which should be enough to bury him. But they balk at spending, even though they are all pretty well off. This daughter earns over $100,000/year. But she works hard for it.
