Hello, Metalchick. I have more experience with psychiatrists than I do with psychologists or licensed mental health counselors, but I've seen therapists of various types.
Possibly, although that's less likely after just a first visit. The counselor will probably ask you a few questions like these, particularly that first one: "What brings you here?"

If you have trouble answering any question, a good counselor should be able to assist you in answering it or to find a way to work with what information you are able to give them.

Some people here prepare to meet with their therapists by going through their PsychCentral posts to remind themselves of what could be discussed.
