My experience is that the first visit is a "get to know you" visit. After you tell the T why you are there he/she will ask you several questions to ascertain specifics.
I would suggest you have a list of questions as well. You want to be sure this will be a supportive relationship. Questions like:
* What type of therapy do you practice?
* Tell me more about how this approach works and what can I expect?
* Are you available via text, email and/or phone outside of our session?
You want your questions to address what is important to you. Remember, this person is responsible for helping you through your struggles, someone you can be vulnerable with.
If you decide this T will be your T, you should leave this appointment feeling you will be able to build a relationship and ultimately feel safe enough to trust.
