I think you would do yourself a great disservice to hope that one day he will "realize" you have always been there, waiting ..... Why? Because your still going to be too invested in wanting him that you will most likely not pay attention to any good men that
are looking for a real relationship.
You really should take a big step back and allow your longing for him to ease up so your able to be more logical about this situation.
