Ugh, I understand what you mean.....I have 1 heat pump for my large 2100 sq ft home & 1000 sq ft basement.
I didn't use the heat pump for AC at all this year during the summer just used my ceiling fans to move around the air.
The only problem I have actually worried about with my all electric home is the like the ice storm we had the 2nd winter I was here when we were out of electricity for a week.....so I got a generator but it will only run the individual room heaters.
What I did last year with my heat pump (& our winter was down in the single digits most of the winter).....but it kept my electric bill lower. I set the temp at 55 & I have room heaters for my bedroom, my bathroom, & my computer room. I turn the room heater on before I go into the rooms to warn them up, or I wear the layer thing while it's warming up & then I turn off the room heater when I leave the room.
Last winter was the first winter I was able to really control my electric bill reasonably....it seemed to work......have to tape up my duct work in the basement the crook guy that installed the new bad heat pump when I first bought it......didn't do a good job & I noticed that it had fallen down....but didn't bother doing anything about it when I wasn't using the system....also found a split in one that goes into my front room....that needs taped up.....I bought the tape....now I just have to do the work.
I had a wood burning stove when I moved in but the idiots never connected it to my flu so all the smoke had been coming into the house....I would love to get a little one but I have too many other places my money needs to go right now.
