No my family doctor hasn't prescribed any pain pills. I just started taking advil for it and it helps but I don't want to take that too much it can cause problems with my other meds for blood pressure and diabetes. This doctor once made me go to the psychiatrist again (hadn't seen one for a few years), because I ran out of lorazepam, I over did it by 3 pills (1 mg.) and I needed it for sleep and anxiety.
I remember sitting there telling him I hadn't been able to sleep for 3 nights, please just give me 3 pills until I can get my prescription refilled again. He refused. I cried from anxiety and told him when I can't sleep that is when my psychosis could kick in. 3 pills! That is all I asked for. I had been very good for years with the lorazepam and was in a very stressful situation with my ex, and he made a big deal about it and made me suffer for another 3 days.
I since then have that psychiatrist, and thank goodness he understands and I've never abused a pill again. He trusts me, which is nice. This family doctor, several years back, I had pain in my back, said to me "I will never prescribe you narcotics, ever". I hadn't even asked
So, I will need to see a specialist or if he gets me the mri, and I'm insisting or going to the hospital in town here, then he will see I'm not kidding about any of the things I've told him for years.
I'm also going to ask whatever doctor or specialist I'm assuming I'll see after the mri, to check if the family doctor had written all my symptoms down for the last several years. Not that that would accomplish anything.
That is good you mentioned a gyno, because I haven't had any exam since my son here was born. (my fault but I have a thing about having those pap smears done) and I just don't like my doctor doing that himself, so I'll ask if he can get me a female obgyn or someone to do it.
Thanks for your post thickntired. I'm really sorry you are experiencing so much pain. Does anti-inflammatory medication help?
I hope you get the help and meds you need!

I just noticed you mentioned your psychosis. I'm really worried because I read an article that said steroids can induce mania in bipolar people. That may not apply to you, but I posted a thread about it in chronic pain to see if anyone has experienced this issue.
