About 7 years ago, I took $30k out of my retirement account to pay for my intensive therapy that year. I got on eBay one weekend and spent $15k on all kinds of things...crates of sports cards, beanie babies, star wars legos, electric train sets, ham radio equipment, Dept 56 Christmas Village sets, silver eagles, gold Isle of Man cat coins. I was so into winning auctions, I didn't even pay attention to what I was buying and how much I was spending. Loved sniping at the last second to steal it from another bidder. It was winning at the slots. I am a middle-aged female. What was I planning to do with electric trains, legos and sports cards? And I've never had any interest in ham radio and didn't have license. I believe I did some of this as my preteen male alter (DID and PTSD from CSA).
Buying off eBay meant I couldn't return any of the stuff.
My T was flabbergasted when I told her what I had done. I kept everything unopened and carefully stored. Luckily, a lot of what I bought had investment potential. I was able to sell train stuff, ham gear, lego sets gold and silver coins a few years later at a nice profit. I still have thousands of sports cards and 500 beanie babies. I am gradually donating those to underprivileged kids at XMAS, children's hospital, and friends' kids.
MY OH MY. My T was totally convinced I was bipolar in addition to other diagnoses after that weekend.
