I have a slightly differing opinion (having gone through something similar with a family member).

It IS really difficult and awkward. But her children are innocent in this and so I don't think it's fair on them if you don't answer their calls.
Hopefully they will separate from you as a matter of course, since you won't physically be around them as much as you were...
