If you go up to the settings in the top right hand corner of chat and select that, and then select options and then go to the sound tab you can turn off "auto play sound message" by un-checking it. Then you wont get the sounds when other people use the sounds in chat. You can also just turn off all sounds in chat by going to the settings and selecting "turn off sounds". That will turn off all sounds in chat. I hope this helps.
