Yea moving can bring on crazy feelings. We were building new home, didn't have a contract saying how long we could stay in our old house, then when people buying our home gave us two weeks to move, (they sold their home) it took day and nights to get it moved into a temporary duplex, and more than one storage room. Then we had to do others ways to get rid of the rest which is always the case when the time comes to move. We sold some on crags list but not so much. Lots of stuff left we decided not worth storing and moving to new house anyway. Took loads to good will store that sells stuff. Then other was auctioned off in building down the road to people. The auction people came and picked it all up. You get less percent when they pick it up themselves. Talk about selling cheep, I don't know what the auction store made, but our checks were nothing. I had a nice 30' X 30' shop with many tools including gas powered equipment, nice tractor, and much more that went very cheap. Mainly due to limited time to move it all. Lots went into a number of rented storage places.
My wife always called me a hoarder. I did not want to part with many things. OH yea, I made at least 10 trips to the land fill with loaded to the hilt 5' X 8' trailer. Had a truck shell over trucks bed so couldn't put much in there. Deciding what to go to dump was hard but the more time you spend tossing on pile, the easier and faster you grabbed it up.
We decided to down size home because our larger place just got to be too much to take care of.
My family (two boys, one girl) wasn't very close so we planned out the best way we could all be far. It worked out because all picked out what they wanted, without hard feelings, the rest, I think, was sold like mom's continental. Of course a will is most important for all. My sister got all the nicer stuff for her home, but the other wife did not care about the stuff at all.
I don't know if you have any siblings, but you may wish to auction stuff, or give it away to people who will come and get. I agree all the stuff can be overwhelming.
