I take klonopin which is similar to valium. both are benzodiazapines. I would advise taking only on an as needed basis. I am right now cutting my dose back which isn't real high.
They are highly effective for anxiety. Probably won't help depression unless the anxiety is causing the depression. In my case depression causes anxiety but the anxiety makes the depression worse. It was horrible anxiety and a vicious cycle so I decided on a benzo despite the risks.
You should educate yourself on the risks and use it minimally.
