I don't pay a lot of attention to food, even though I used to be an excellent cook and cared a lot in my younger years.
Here are some things I do to try to have a reasonably well-balanced diet:
1. Find the fruits and veggies that you like, buy them and eat them.
2. Eat on a schedule.
3. Pay attention to what you eat -- enjoy it. Be grateful for it. Don't read while eating. If possible, eat with someone else to make it a pleasurable event.
4. Don't eat snacks except at certain times of the day that you designate as the time for "treats." My treat time is the early evening while watching TV. And treats are limited -- no endless noshing, just a reasonable treat. A couple of cookies OR some chips but not both.
I know you can find your right rhythm and habits -- because you want to, and that's a good start.
