okay i'm editing this so i hope noone responds while i'm editing... anyways...

i have a lot of hair and it is kinda wavy. when it is short it is fairly wavy but when it gets longer the weight holds it down. i used to have fairly long hair then i had a bad accident and it turned into crap 'cause of the stress and the hospital stay and stuff. so i got it cut shorter and styled. kept that up a little bit but got disgruntled with bad styles (price of salon really isn't much of an indicator of how well they will cut your hair and neither is the 'senior stylist' buzz). so i grew it... and developed social anxiety and the like and just kind of let it grow for about four years without getting it trimmed (bad i know).

once i moved here i eventually got up the courage to go to the hairdresser. she was quite a ***** to me actually. because i clearly hadn't been to a hairdresser for so long. i was determined i wanted to get rid of all the split ends and get it cut straight across so i could grow it out. didn't want anybody messing up a style basically. she was a bit snotty about that. kind of incredulous that i wanted that. she was like 'it will be just touching your shoulders with all the split ends gone (snigger)' and 'are you sure you don't want me to layer it?' i managed to say... 'actually i've had so many bad cuts i'd rather you just cut it straight across actually and i'll grow it from there'. she went on a bit about the quality of the salon and i said 'actually i've had some of my worst cuts from senior stylists of very good salons'. she seemed to respond a little to my snootiness and she ended up kind of 'confessing' that my hair is a lot harder to cut then it seems because there is so much of it and because it is wavy you need some time to get to know how it sits naturally in order to layer it in a flattering way (so it holds its shape once you have left the salon).

what happened... was that after i washed it it sprung up (because the waves amplified with the lack of length). i don't blowdry my hair and so it looked unruly basically. not so hot. so... i ended up forking out for some heavy duty conditioning treatments and let it grow for about 9 months so i could get the length back. once the length was *just* okay again i went back for a trim.

and... she %#@&#! it up. she was talking to insurance assessors (getting upset about it) while an assistant was washing my hair. she turned around to me from talking to them and went 'chop'. then she trimmed the back (as i wanted) but layered it a little up towards my face. i was kind of appalled that she was doing that at the time but didn't know she was going to do that until she had already started doing it.

once i left and washed it and thought about it and looked at it properly... i realised that when she went 'chop' basically... she shouldn't have done that. she layered it at the front to try and disguise it. then blowdried it to disguise it even more. i lost that 9 months of growth at the front of my hair (which is precisely where i need the length). she %#@&#! it up, basically. $55 dollars for a 'trim' from the senior stylist at a decent salon and she can't even trim it straight across. i won't be going back there. thought about calling the salon up and getting my money back but she is a bit dramatic and i figure she is more likely to get defensive and try and justify it as a style and personally attack me for not blowdrying it or whatever. not worth it basically.

it is jolly hard to find a decent hairdresser. reputation of the person, basically. and tell them so (so they are more motivated to keep up their reputation i guess). sigh. i'm going to have to get a blowdryer over the next couple days. i HATE my hair. just want it to be inconspicuous and tidy for #%$&'s sake.
