My T sits about 2 ft away from me. She can't move her chair because it's too heavy. But if either one of us leans forward, we can touch the other and/or show each other things. She has sat next to me on the couch once (she didn't ask, but she knew I wouldn't mind). And we once sat on the floor together (to play with the puppy)...we were a good 4 ft apart.
