I'm answering it's not common. The expression being friends first, I am learning is about friendship being the core base foundation to a romantic relationship. If we wouldn't walk around saying f you, to our besties, certainly, isn't friendly, mutually respectable behavior in a romantic relationship/ partnership/marriage.
If your best friend in the world, started defiantly saying that, what would you do?
