I do not have much experience with therapists (I have more experience with psychiatrists). I do suppose it is possible some percentage of therapists might use a tactic like that to elicit a response. Some of the posts I've read at PC over the years lead me to think that is at least possible.

Is it possible for you to get "pre-therapy counselling"? Could someone take a look at
your whole case and history, including the history of the treatment/therapy you have received, and advise you what kind of treatment or combination of treatments would be most valuable for you?
