here where I live and work.... the needing to function is considered a trigger and resulting action of switching into the alter that has that job, purpose reason for being to complete that function is dissociation."

Ok so when I need to drive, the need to drive is the trigger for my alter who drives to come forward and take control. That is fine. I was stuck on the word trigger as it meaning something negative had to happen or be felt. I see what you mean.
exactly here in NY a ....trigger.... does not have to be traumatic or negative. its just that physical or mental thing that causes something to happen....

one thing that helps me to remember triggers do not have to be negative or traumatic is to think about something positive that I have done today. that thinking of a positive thing triggers my brain into remembering sometimes on a visual level. or for example turning on a light switch is a trigger for a lamp to come on,.... or when I think about a favorite food this triggers my taste buds and other physical reactions to happen.

I kind of had the feeling we were not quite on the same page definition wise. now that you know what my locations definitions are you can understand what I posted.
