I think the hard truth about depression (and a reality that we all must eventually face) is there is no such thing as totally beating depression (or anxiety or whatever mental illness we have). There's no magical moment when it's going to go away forever. And there's nobody out there who is coming to save us.

There is only learning to live with it, learning to accept that it's a part of us and learning to cope with it when it comes over us. When we release control of the outcome, we become at peace with it and it doesn't hit us quite so bad when it does come.

Life is a great roller coaster of emotion. We're going to have up times and then we're going to have down times. And the way to smooth out the ride is to develop an unending spirit of gratefulness. We can find contentment in the storm and the storm doesn't have to be so bad if we only learn not to resist that dark part of us.
