A prn should be a part of every treatment plan for a Bipolar patient... A "go to med" that can knock you down a bit if your going up or losing the ability to just plain handle things , of course these things usually happen on a friday nite or on the week your Pdoc is on vacation... Hense the need for such a plan.

If your on meds you have your normal everyday treatment plan, But if you start head first into a hellish episode , you can start the prn right then , in hopes to stomp out the problem before it becomes a raging hell.

Zyprexa is a good one , benzios can work, Actually ole school Haldol is one that is a very quick acting medication.

"My" understanding is that most Pdocs are open to the idea of having this in place, But it's something you should ask for if they do not bring it up.
