I think if you want to give her something game related, it's a good idea to go age appropriate. Lexibook and some others make pads and games aimed at kids that age (younger and older also), they have fewer choices and are rougher and less easy to break. Also I'd choose a fairly gender neutral one.

It might lack the coolness factor an i-product has, but I think 7 is too young to worry about status.
