Counseling is the best thing I have found that helps. It gives me a safe place to discuss such a sensitive issue. My doctor knows the difference between suicidal stuff and inappropriate coping skills. I am pretty sure I know where I learned these coping skills. As a child, I learned that if I was hurt, my parents stopped fighting. Not a good lesson to learn.
You do need to learn new coping skills as do I. You also need someone safe to discuss it with.
