I'm really close and comfortable with my therapist and we spend most of my appointment time laughing, so transitioning into the end of the session is pretty easy. If we're in the middle of a serious conversation, he'll wait until we've settled the topic before he lets me go. He's insistent that if we haven't resolved an issue, I stay until it's done (usually 10-15 minutes over). But if it's the normal time to leave and we're close to done, he'll reiterate the points we went over during the session, make sure I'm ready to handle the next 2 weeks, remind me that I can handle it, and then we both stand up, high five, and I leave.
