Wow, everything you wrote about how the company sees IT sounds awful. It just doesn't sound like a good environment at all. Are you going to go ahead and work on the projects for your friend? It sounds like that would be a good way to get a bit more work, without having to deal with that guy (if I'm understanding correctly).

Even as a contractor, do you think you'd want to work for that guy? He just sounds like he'd make your life miserable...
