Please do not take what this man is saying. It sounds like the beginning of him trying to get you into a relationship with him by manipulation and control. If a man really cares/wants to be with you it would not matter if your kids were older or not. IMHO it sounds like he is trying to get you to believe that if you do not stay with him no one else will like you.
Please think twice about continuing with this man and seek out resources in your area.
