For me, I don't look upon it as repressing thoughts and feelings, but developing the ability to take a break from them to enable myself to develop some perspective. There is no point in allowing situations to keep going around and round. I find that becoming aware of my posture, and aware of how I am relating to my environment through my senses, gives me some much needed inner silence and peace. Letting go of your negativity is no bad thing. Sure, some problems only get worse if ignored, but a surprising number of things we worry about evaporate like mist when you release them.
