This is the first time EVER in my almost-fifty-six years on this planet that I haven't been able to buy gifts. It'll also be the first time I won't receive gifts either. Hubby and I came thisclose to being homeless---we have a place now and will be moving New Year's weekend, and all our (limited) funds have to go toward deposits, moving truck etc. Thank God for the friend who set up a GoFundMe account for us; we've received almost $1600 in donations. Still, I wish I could spend some of that on gifts, even though we really need it for moving and as a cushion once we get settled in and have to figure out how to make $679 (hubby's Social Security) last us all month.
We're going to keep up a couple of our old traditions: go to Mass on Christmas Eve and then come home and watch National Lampoon's
Christmas Vacation (My favorite holiday movie ever.) with hot cocoa and popcorn. This year we'll go to our youngest son's place on Christmas morning and they're going to take us out to dinner in the afternoon. At least they have lights and a Christmas tree (we didn't decorate this year because we knew we were going to be evicted), and dinner out is a real treat.
