Just a few thoughts, and then we'll close this thread because we don't want members to feel like they're being singled out.

We all bring our own experiences and perspectives to the table in a support community like this. It's always going to be hodge-podge of folks who offer advice and insights, some good, some not relevant, and so on.

The key part, for me anyways, of gaining from a community like ours is to take the advice that speaks to you, and throw away (without judgment) the advice that doesn't seem to jive with your reality. That means learning to understand that not everyone has walked a mile in your shoes, so others may not truly understand your pain or experiences.

I also have to add that honesty can be doled out with a little compassion and trying to understand another person's point of view or personal experiences. It's not an all-or-nothing option. And you might find that honesty expressed with tentativeness and compassion ends up reaching the person far more effectively than anything else...
