I have lied on forums before, for many of the reasons that people whom responded to this post before me have (to fit in, nervous, to cover the truth with a lie that resembled the same problem to get an applicable response, etc.)

People that no longer respect me for admitting I've lied no longer get mine for lying to themselves about how honest they are being. We all lie at one point or another, just like we've all been honest at some point. It's actually considered healthy to lie to a certain extent to build goals, climb up the career ladder, and to offset the bad while accentuating the good. We all have our reasons for lying, and I am a firm believer of all lies and the circumstances they are applied to not being created equal.

I mostly lie to avoid judgment while seeking help and assistance from others. I wouldn't be all that surprised if others did the same thing to me and I don't think it dishonors one's character. The point is to be honest about what you want to be helped with. Everything else is irrelevant anyway and the distraction of the truth may defeat the purpose - to get help - not to be judged.

I also have severe delusions and it can be hard for me to determine reality from what my mind perceives as reality but in fact may be my own fabricated deception. Then again, PTSD along with schizoaffective disorder will do that.
