First off, awesome job at standing up to your mother. I'm giving you multiple high fives! I have lost my opportunity to really deal with my parents - my mother has frontal dementia, and probably less than 24 months to live. My dad has early stage Alzheimers. Just diagnosed. I'm not sure how I feel about both situations (mom and dad). So good for you!

Second off, I also have emotional attachment problems, a hard time reading body language, and other social cues. I also dealt with abuse (many kinds) as a child, and I think it is linked. I don't even like being touched. It reminds me of being hit. That leads to delusions, hallucinations, and absent mindedness for me - especially at the worse. I almost got into a car accident yesterday because of it, I had to snap back to reality and slam on my brakes

Years and years ago I talked to a therapist about it (when I was a teenager and after my first real attempt) and was told that - although not common - it isn't necessarily uncommon. It all depends on the person, but there are cases of it. Which is a completely unhelpful answer. You should probably bring it up with your doctor.
