So, it's my first year and a 1/2 of being totally dedicated & compliant with both my medical and psychological treatment plan. It's been tough but well worth the challenge. Despite my 30+ yrs dedicated to nursing, I still spent a lot of time reserching about my illness, making sure I kept all appointments and medication refills. I kept up on my mood chart, journaling, and the homework provided from workbooks I've purchased.
Most importantly, my mood charting and utilizing my husband as a barometer, I was able to report when my medication wasn't strong enough or too strong. I was originally diagnosed as Bipolar Type 2 and eventually found that I am Type1. This confirmed the medical advice that i must remain on a medication course of treatment in order to sustain wellness. And I completely agree.
Now, heading into my second year, I've challenged myself to speak out on awareness of mental health. I started a blog page and just opened a page on FB about A Conversation On Mental Health Problems. This step is a very scary place for me as I'm far from being a decent writer. I figured the more I take these steps the more improved I'll become.
So, I'm off, amazed by my own courage, stamping out my insecurities, and taking a risk.
