Adult Children of Alcoholics was just a play on Alcoholics Anonymous-the ACoA model fits perfectly over just about any type of clinical level dysfunction in the home growing up.
Others might argue with this, but one good way to know is of course to read the laundry list, but keep in mind there are those who identify with the opposites for those as well.
I'm as classic an ACoA as anyone I've ever met at meetings and both my parents simply used their "alcoholism" to cover up their drug use. Alcoholism being more socially acceptable I guess, because it appeared to work.
