Depression can certainly cause sleep problems. It messes up melatonin and circadian rhythms. It's a double edged sword because not getting good sleep can make depression worse even if the depression is causing the sleep problems.

If it is only the last four or five months and the Lexapro hasn't caused it before than that is not it.

If you have been on the Lexapro for years and don't feel it is working it probably pooped and you need to switch to a new one. I would focus on treating the depression and getting the sleep problem fixed.

Klonopin .5mg twice a day, cutting this back
