Kane there is another type of "dying" that occurs while you remain physically alive and it yields the 'peace in life' that you are seeking. This pertains to your state of consciousness/awareness and transcending one's identification with the physical (egoic) mind, and thus with the 'physical self'. This is what the expression "
dying to oneself" pertains to, and there is another related saying that goes, "
He who dies before he dies does not die when he dies". One more that goes, "
The secret of life is to die before you die and find that there is no death".
(Important Note for Clarity: none of these sayings/quotes are in any way promoting or encouraging physical 'death', but the type of 'psychospiritual death' I was alluding to above) Such an experience is what may be termed in Transpersonal Psychology as an 'ego-death'. It entails elevating and expanding your state of awareness beyond identification with the physical (egoic) mind and its influence - which is the primary source of our suffering (lack of peace). I can't help but feel you may be touching on this experience/process without being aware of it.
You don't have to feel preoccupied with your own perceived mortality. Live every day fully and make the most of your time here. Question, explore, search, seek, contemplate, reflect, and look for ways in which you can positively effect and influence the lives of others.
