Many years ago during one of the times I was hospitalized, I was in group and all of a sudden one of the guys stared off into space and started to talk. The guy next to me said that the other person has conversations with the Trinity, so I said "excuse me, are the voices inside or outside your head?" and he said "outside, of course."

My tdoc later explained to me that often the voices inside are your "tapes" or self-talk. As far as I know, hearing or not hearing voices is only one of the many reasons to take/not take meds. I don't have "outside" voices, and I still have bipolar 1 and take meds.

You should definitely talk to your pdoc or med manager about reevaluating your meds if you were originally concerned that you were hearing voices.

hope that helps
