why can't God have used evolution by natural selection as the means by which to create man in his own image?

I don't see that believing in God rules out belief in evolution, and I don't see that believing in evolution rules out belief in God either.

Though... There are some particular claims that conflict.

E.g., If one is a literalist about Genesis then I guess one believes that God made each of the species individually. That conflicts with the 'common ancestor' claim made by evolutionary theorists.

Do you believe that evolution by natural selection is a natural process that works on every species aside from human beings or do you mean to deny that there is a process of evolution by natural selection altogether?
