A treadmill sounds like a good idea. I used to use one at the gym. Certainly can work to get your heart rate up, and get your muscles exercised. I have a x trainer, but its not getting much use at the moment as I'm into my bike for my aerobic workout. The advantage with x trainers is that you also use your upper body.
Good luck with that. You may get a bargain in the sales.
