Single rooms were not an option at the college I went to first time, but would have been the better option with my BP if I could have lived by myself in the dorm. As soon as I could I get into a situation that I could live by myself, things went much better for me after that with my studies and over all well being when that happened. A single room in a dorm would have been the best of both worlds, being on campus for easy access to everything, getting to meet the others that live there too to socialize and to participate in events, and as well as having some privacy for my issues would have been ideal to start out. This is the option I would have taken and much less stress.
