I, too, am the only female in an all male job as an electronic technician and have been off and on for 30 years (I took time out to stay home with my kids and tried teaching electronics classes for a few years before going 'back' into the field).

First, you DO NOT have to take any guff off of anyone. They have no right to pick on you simply because you're a woman. Men like that are insecure cowards and the best thing to do about them is simply ignore them. Eventually, they make such arses out of themselves, they might just up and quit. I've seen it happen before.

And God forbid, should one of them ask me what makes me think I can do the work, I simply reply that I've never seen a man use his penis while doing the job, so I don't see how it's required equipment.

I'm not going to say it's been easy, but I have always managed to earn the respect of the gentlemen and the insecure cowards either go away and leave me alone, or go find another job. I am careful not to make any jokes or comments that are, or can be construed as, sexual in nature.

You have the right to do whatever work you enjoy. I don't know what field you're in, but I chose electronics because it's what my father always did for a living and I fell in love with it when I was about 7 years old. I've always loved it and intend to keep at it until I retire.

Good Luck and I hope things get better for you. It takes time, but you can learn to stick up for yourself.
