that is up from 5% in 2008. They still have not recovered from the slow down.

One thing to watch out for is your sister being objective or does she have a vested interest in you moving there? Sounds like she is glamorizing IT. It is very competitive and people are begging for jobs in some locales with plenty of experience.

A friend made a 3-5 year plan with their current job to beef up the savings account 5000-10,000 dollars before moving in case things took a dive. They also planned to establish network connections with prospective employers ahead of time.

Sounds like you are happy where you are. Honestly what you mentioned does not sound like a resume that is ready to dive into IT in my opinion after talking with IT professionals as clients for 20 years.

Be careful of a whitewashing by your sister. Her need may outweigh her knowledge of the IT market.
