I highly suggest you see your doctor about meds... and whether or not you should try them. There can be side effects to both medication and to lack of sleep, so (from what you've said) it sounds like you will need something to help you get to sleep and stay asleep. I tried an over-the-counter sleep aid, Sleep-eze, but my pdoc suggested I use an antidepressant at nighttime. For me, it makes sense to combat depression and insomnia with one medication. Your situation could be very different. If you need sleep asap and can't see your doctor right away, I suggest trying a sleep aid, but be completely honest with your doctor so that you can find a long-term solution.
*I should also add that you may want to consider counseling or some CBT to help with your racing thoughts/worries at bedtime.*
