Shane,
I'm sorry you had to go through that. Some people believe that without medication there is no hope - but as someone who's never taken medication I can tell you that there is. Medicine or no medicine - action is required. Inaction, is, of itself an action. If they have not been in the situation then they have no idea how hard it is to do things when you are depressed. If you're of age (I see you are 17, its of age in some places and not in another) - I would absolutely ask for a referral for a new doctor and not take my mother (or anyone else) with me to or inside the appointments. I think that perhaps the doctor and your mother were just frustrated because they don't know how to help you but what they fail to understand is that you, as the person with depression, are dealing with way more then just that. Things that seem simple to them are not simple to someone who is depressed. Every thing is a mountain. Perhaps you can talk to your mother about switching to a new doctor with an open slate and without her skewed influence in order to get a better chance at getting help. Having the criticism of someone who is supposed to help you and someone who is supposed to protect you all in the same room is leaving you without any options, so the next step is to simply leave them out of your plans. Just my humble opinion. *hugs* I'm sorry you are struggling so.
