I've found 50 minutes to be about right most of the time. T is good at framing our sessions so they don't feel like they abruptly end. He's also good at finding a focus for each session so I don't feel like I'm trying to do too much in that time period. He's gone overtime with me a few times when I was in a particular crisis, but extra time isn't something that I normally have needed, even during the intense era of my therapy. If I needed more than an hour a week, I simply scheduled an extra session. I've learned I don't have to do it all in one session. One or two areas of focus is about all my brain can handle anyway. Beyond an hour, I really just get mentally exhausted and find I leave really worn out, so 50 minutes is really good self-care in a way.
