I do have out of session contact.. For the first year, I would call his office and leave a message and he would call back. After about the first year he gave me his email address and cell phone number to text.

How often depends on what's going on in my life.. when I am really depressed, suicidal, etc.. we text or email to keep in touch a lot more frequently. Now, that I am more stable.. Its been two weeks since I have contacted him via email, and about a month and a half since our last text.

I contact because I am feel depressed, suicidal, anxiety is overwhelming.. When I email, it is to let him know that I am going down a bad road, when I text its because I am really bad.

The only boundary put in place was that I couldn't just text him and talk about anything. I text because I am checking in, or feeling down. Not just to chat.
