It depends on the medication. Lithium worked the quickest for me. I think it took a few weeks and I felt a lot calmer. AD kicked in within a couple of weeks, but I took it after the lithium had started. I think some AAP's show up within 24-48 hours which is why they're often given to people IP and in crisis.
