Theres a twilight zone episode where a group of psych types are training one of their children to be telepathic and unemotional. Stuff happens and she gets adopted by a "normal" family who teach her to talk and emote. More stuff happens and there is a tug-of-war between the group and the adoptive mother. The adoptive mother wins.

When i saw this show when i was a kid, i remember thinking, what a horrible loss to science!! What, just so this woman could replace her infertility with this girl or whatever?? T and i were talking about this last week, and we were like - wait a minute - in the twilight zone, wouldnt the psych group have won, not the family?? What exactly is the weird way here? But yeah, he disappointed all us geeks!
