We use icons before we post a thread.

They may give the user an idea of what the thread is about.

Some threads may need a specific icon (like the red circle with the cross through it, meaning that there is triggering material in the thread; some members may not be feeling 100% up to reading a triggering material on a particular day)

Or some icons are happy icons for happy posts.
