Yeah, you won't know how a particular med is going to affect you until you take it. That's the hard part. I have found that with the newer antidepressants that, at least for me, don't have the adverse side effects of the earlier antidepressants, but some people or more sensitive than others. But if your depression is that bad I would suggest that you give them a try. I know my depression is unbearable when I don't take them.
